Today I wanted to share a super fun before & after with you. We have an extra room in the upstairs of the house that we’re renting that has always kind of just been a dump/sort of office room. It’s never had a ton of purpose and didn’t get much attention. But then, when Mysa was born, I had the perfect purpose for it and it became the Mysa office! Our landlord gave us permission to paint over the wallpaper, so after some paint, rearranging, and shopping the house for some cute accessories, it became a bright happy space to work in.
Here are some super stellar shadow-y iphone before photos. 😉
And here’s the after!
I love the little yellow velvet chair that we found for FIVE BUCKS at a thrift store… all it took was 20 minutes of tearing the skirt off and she turned out to be a beauty! When I saw it I got excited, then a little worried since it didn’t have a price tag, then excited again when we asked and they said it was $5! I love thrifting surprises like that! The midcentury table was also a five buck steal a couple years back at a thrift store.
Sitting and working at this desk is such a happy feeling! Its gigantic (if you hadn’t noticed), so that’s pretty great. This thing is a workhorse, let me tell ya’. And having the sun stream in and bounce off the pretty white walls is just heavenly!
I store the inventory of the Mysa Home Shop on this wall. These photos were taken over a month ago, so let’s just say the inventory has grown a bit since then. I may or may not need to expand my inventory storage area… 🙂
So there you have it! The Mysa office. I love being in this room now, and all it took was a can of paint, a few hours, and some creativity! Some people have asked how painting over wallpaper went… and it was a pretty good experience. It isn’t anything we’d do in a house we own, because you can see the seams and some ripples where the wallpaper isn’t perfect. But when our landlord said we could paint right over it we were wayyy into doing less work for a place that we aren’t going to be in for very long. Plus, it definitely improved this room, seams and ripples included.
Let me know if you’d like to know where anything is from! Most of it is thrifted, but there are a few things that you might actually be able to find in stores still. 🙂 Have a happy Wednesday, friends!
P.S. Have you signed up for the Mysa Newsletter yet? I’ll be sending out my guide that has 5 tips to a cozier home in one week! Don’t miss out!
Beautiful! Do you have any tips when thrift shopping for furniture or any unique finds?
Hey Tanya!
Yes! I have tons of tips! That would be a great blogpost that I will definitely write and let you know when I do. But for starters, I’d say one of the biggest tips to finding good things is to go often. Even if you just pop in and quickly peruse through the furniture section or whatever you’re looking for, it’s helpful to go more frequently since things are always changing at thrift stores. Another tip that I alluded to in this post is to check the legs of older furniture that have skirts. Skirts aren’t really in right now and can make a piece of furniture look out-dated. But you really just need a screwdriver and/or pliers to get a skirt off, so if a piece has good legs that can be a great option for something that you might have otherwise overlooked.
I’ll let you know when I write that post! 😉 Thanks for the good question!
aack! Skirts aren’t in?! Your auntie may need some help!
Oh no! I’m sure if you have something with a skirt it’s fine… it’s bound to come back in style in a few years anyways, right?! 😉
love the green trunk! 😉
Right?! Me too! It’s such good storage. Plus, it reminds me of a pretty special family! 😉
