White walls have been making a big statement in the design world for the past couple years and it seems that Pinterest is plastered with photos of homes with beautiful, stark white walls (at least my Pinterest is!). But dark walls are really making a come-back, and I think I’m a-okay with that!
One of my favorite ways to do a dark wall is to incorporate it into an otherwise light room as a statement wall. Dark navy really pops against white, and with some other light or contrasting pieces in the room it totally works. Another way to do dark walls is in smaller rooms like a bathroom. This works especially well if there are other light or white features like a tub, toilet, trim, floor, etc. Basically, you want a balance. If you’re going to have dark walls, throw in some contrast with your furniture and accessories!
A few other takeaways from these inspiration photos: 1) brass fixtures and lighting look really nice against dark walls, 2) matted photography and art really pop against a dark wall, and 3) adding in some color through rugs and other textiles as well as bringing in some stark white can help a dark-walled room still feel bright and cheery.
Are you digging the dark wall trend, or are you team white walls all the way?

Thanks for the info…I love your clean lines and thoughtful placement of home decor…i find myself adding too much to personal decor, but when I stage homes I am much better at eliminating the clutter….thanks for sharing your ideas…
Thanks, Sandi! And actually, the photos in this post are not my own… they are just inspiration for dark walls. The source for each photo can be found beneath it. They are all looks that I love so much! I am always trying to simplify as well. Less is more sometimes! 🙂
