I recently wrote about three goals I have for my home, which were more heart-oriented. Today I want to share with you ten practical goals that we have for our home (and life) for Spring! These are mostly home projects that we hope to get done in the next month and a half, as well as a couple things we want to do with the arrival of the nicer weather!
We have a lot of dirt that’s just begging for some hostas, ground cover, and flowers. While we were in Nebraska last weekend my nana gave us a bunch of plants from her garden, so we have a good start!
We have a giant pine tree in our backyard that’s boughs touch the ground. So we’re going to trim it up and then hang our hammock from it and a nearby pine tree who already has higher branches. I can hardly wait to lay out in the sun and breeze!
Now that we live in a different area, I can’t wait to see what the local Farmer’s Markets are like. One of my favorite quintessential spring/summer ways to spend a Saturday morning!
Now that we’ve taken down our Christmas wreath, our front door is looking a little bare. I’d love to find a wreath that works well for spring and summer and welcomes people to our home! Or maybe I’ll end up making one!
We have a wheelchair ramp on our patio from the previous owners, and I’d love to remove it to free up more space. We may have to replace it with a stair, but maybe not. We’ll see!

I talked about my patio dreams recently, and this is definitely the #1 thing that I’m excited for once the warm weather really hits! Ideally, I’d love to paint our patio as well (it’s a pretty bright yellow currently), but with our basement project going on that might have to wait for later in the year or next year.
Since moving, we have quite a bit of furniture that just doesn’t fit in this house, so it’s been sitting either in our basement or out in our shed all winter. Once the weather’s a bit nicer I plan to drag it all outside, photograph it, and make some moolah!
Along the lines of planting in our garden space, I’d love to spruce up the front step and back patio with some potted plants. Bring on ALL the plants!
We have a nature center not too far from our house that we’ve heard great things about, so I’m excited to check it out this spring. Going on walks and rollerblading is a favorite of ours when the weather’s nice, so it will be lovely to have a beautiful place to do it!
We’re currently re-finishing our basement family room (taking it from sparkly popcorn ceilings and wood panelling to, well, normal). My goal is to have it finished in time for a bachelorette party that I’m throwing for my future sister-in-law in May, but we’ll see if that happens. These things always seem to take longer than expected.
Most of our Spring projects are well underway. I’m very excited about all the perennials……. that we have been nurturing for many years, have just about filled all of our flower beds. I purcased marigolds, alyssum, impatiens and salvia to add color. All of those annuals add a nice splash of color and will bloom till frost. I purchased the Boston ferns for our deck yesterday. You would love one or two of those on your patio, Heather. They are nice for hanging or in a plant stand. I planted three tomato plants….. a grape, a cherry and one for slicing. So I think we are all set for Spring! Now I just have to muster up enough energy to care for it all summer long.
We just bought two boston ferns for our patio last night! I will send you pics!
Good for you….. Did you get them at Home Depot for $9.98? Keep your sales slip… last year after I purchased mine, they went on sale for $5.00. They will adjust the price within 30 days. Did you get your rhubarb harvested? ☺
We did get them for $9.98 at Home Depot! Good to know! And I will go out and harvest the rhubarb soon… just in time to make some crisp this afternoon with mom!
