Today I’m excited to share with you our upstairs living room design plan. When we moved into our house last September, the basement had a large finished room, complete with sparkly popcorn ceilings, wood paneling, and bare bulbs. Not exactly the most welcoming (or cute!) place to hang out.
The past couple months we’ve been working on re-finishing it—mainly scraping the ceilings and replacing the wood paneling with drywall. And we’re finally getting close to finishing! So I can finally do more than just dream of designing that big family room… which also means I get to make some changes to our upstairs living room!
I’m fully embracing the fact that our newly finished basement will have a domino effect on our living room. You see, our TV is currently in our living room, and that will be moving downstairs (along with the large console it’s on and the comfy sofas and coffee table). So we’ll be lacking in furniture upstairs, but do you think I was dismayed by this thought?! Absolutely not! 🙂
I’ve spent the last few months researching to find the very best furniture replacement situation for our living room, as well as working hard selling stuff on Craigslist so we’d have money for said furniture. And this past week we finally pulled the trigger on the couch and chair I decided on from IKEA.
And I LOVE them! Even though our living room is slightly squished now since we’ve got the new furniture as well as the stuff that will be moving downstairs, I can tell it’s going to be good. So I pulled together this design board to show you what our living room will look like hopefully in the next month or so. Obviously, once everything is moved to its proper place, I’ll be giving you a proper tour of the new spaces, but until then, you’ll just have to imagine it.
If you’re curious, here’s the sofa, the chair, and the artwork. Everything else is stuff that we already own, and most of it is thrifted. I’ve rounded up similar items under the “Get the look” section below!
I’m excited to finish these projects since it feels like we’ve been in limbo for so long! I’m also excited for the TV to move downstairs for two reasons. 1) In the hopes that we’ll watch it less if it’s not right in front of our face all the time and 2) when we do watch it, it won’t be right across from a giant window that causes major glare issues. Win-win! And of course getting to pick out a few new pieces and rearrange everything is a bonus too. 🙂
