Hey, friends! It’s been awhile since I’ve done a post on what I’m currently digging/what’s going on in our life! We’re in a season of busy weekend travel and lots of weeknights spent at home working on homework. We’re going on walks and searching for a car and creating good habits and seeing God’s good work in our lives. So without further ado, here are some more things that are currently happening around here with some suggestions of some really good things!
Listening to
Journeywomen Podcast and this song right here:
Downton Abbey!!! Practically ever since we started dating four years ago I’ve been trying to get my husband to watch DA (that’s what all the cool kids call it) with me, but we’ve never had a way to watch it since it’s not on Netflix or Hulu. So when Brian’s aunt moved in with us about a month ago and told us that she had DA on DVD, I was elated! Brian was not, but since we started it, he’s decided that it’s actually as good as I always said it was and not nearly as boring as he envisioned it would be.
Reading
Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin. Guys. This book is completely changing the way I read the Bible. If you’ve ever felt like the Bible is boring, or you don’t know where to start, or you just want to read it how it’s meant to be read, then this book is for you.
Creating a month of “Interior Education”—not a very catchy name, so if you have any ideas, shoot them my way! Regardless, I’m wanting to provide either a) a month’s worth of education on one big idea regarding interiors or b) a month of education that is split into four different ideas over four weeks. My friend recently did this with her nutrition Facebook page and I really liked it (and asked her permission to steal it!).
What’s going on in your life? Any book/podcast/TV show/song recommendations?
Right now our life is routine and a bit slow, but we have daily chores of watering and caring for our yard and garden. We harvest some tomatoes every day; More than we can eat, so we will give some away. It is hot and humid in Nebraska, so we aren’t doing too many other outside activities. We had a new HVAC system installed last week, so that took up a couple days. Now we are set for any kind of weather all year long!
On Wednesday I am having two special lady friends in for coffee. We have been friends for over 40 years. One of the ladies has her daughter and granddaugter visiting here from California, so it will be fun to entertain the three generations! I’m making it more like a “tea party” and will use fresh flowers from my garden and home made scones for one of our treats.
I enjoy visiting ladies who can no longer be in their homes and are now living in skilled care centers. I did a visit this afternoon to a 93 year old woman who used to attend our church. She gave up her home of 60 years, which was hard for her. I try to encourage her so she knows that God can bless her, even now, in this new, unfamiliar environment. She has a sound mind, but is physically unable to care for her daily needs. You may send up prayers for Vera!
We have a Bible Study group meet at our house every other Thursday afternoon. We have three couples and three single ladies. All of us are in our Senior years and we have developed a bond through studying how to become closer to Christ and to each other. We’ve been meeting for the last year and a half.
My niece called and asked me to join her for a “Women of Faith” conference which will be held in our town in early September. That sounds a long ways off, but will be here before we know it!
We continue to entertain friends at our home over meals and cards or games. Our door is open for a visit from you!!
That’s about it for now. 🙂
I just now saw this! What a fun update! 🙂 Wow… sounds like you have a lot of tomatoes! And how nice to have a new HVAC. Brian and I have discussed getting central air installed in our home… being this is our first summer here without it. Wish I could have joined the tea party! Now I’m hungry for homemade scones! 😛
