If you’ve noticed garlands popping up everywhere, you aren’t the only one! From wood beads, greenery and macrame, to tissue paper, felt balls, and fabric, garlands of all kinds are showing up in homes. And I’m not mad about it! (In fact I’m very, very happy about it!)
If you’re not as convinced, let me make a case for garlands. They can:
- add color, texture, and pattern
- help you celebrate events (hellloooo the easiest party decor ever!)
- add an extra layer so your home feels collected
- highlight something in your home (a mantel, piece of art, or window)
- be draped, hung, wrapped, set—so versatile!
- help you bring a new material into a room
- add a feeling of whimsy and can help a space feel more care-free
Convinced? Good. Now feast your eyes.

How stunning is this macrame beauty?? Imagine this fireplace without it. This space would have far less impact and would be far less cozy.

And this colorful number definitely brings a whimsy touch to this otherwise very regal room. It also ties together the colors in the room… a great little trick when decorating with garlands!

When I was designing my business and came to the point of needing to select a name, I thought long and hard.
I tried out dozens of variations of different names, but nothing quite felt like “the one.” Then I stumbled across a Swedish word—mysa. And when I read the definition, and thought about all the implications it had, I knew it was the right name for my business.
Mysa [pronounced MEE-sah] is a Swedish word that means ‘to cozy up.’ It conjures up scenes of candle-lit dinners with good friends, snuggling up on the sofa with a good book, and basking in the comfort of home after a long day away from home.
And I think that this time of year—as the days grow colder and darker—that’s when we’re all craving a little more cozy. That’s when we’re all craving more warmth and texture and mood lighting and mood music and yummy scents. There’s just something about this season that makes us into cozy cravers!
So why not add a little mysa to your home? Add another layer. Add some warm colors. Add a few more candles. Because if what we’re craving is cozy, then shouldn’t that be what our homes are? #douglasdigs #cozyupwithmysa #mycultivatedhome

The new #hearthandhand collection by @magnolia at @target is beautiful! The hubs was a super champ and we went this morning at 8am to be greeted by free blooms (they even gave him one.. hence the two different bunches!) and lots of other excited shoppers. It was a little like Black Friday where your adrenaline gets pumping! I had looked online ahead of time, so I knew I loved this black pitcher, striped potholders, and adorable spoon rest, but I also brought home a 2017 tree ornament and the cutest little kitchen scale. Definitely check it out, friends! There was so much more I could’ve taken home with me! #magnolialove #kitchendecor #fauxflowers
Then there’s the giant rabbit hole of DIY garlands that you can find on the internet. I especially love this wood bead garland and this paper leaf garland.
But if you’re crunched for time, or just don’t have the patience for or interest in making your own, I’ve got you covered. There are some seriously good choices, guys! They’re affiliate links, which mean we both win, so click away! 😉
