Homeownership can certainly have its ups and downs, but one of the biggest benefits is that you can make large, permanent changes to make it more your “own.” But even if you don’t own your own place, there are still plenty of updates you can make to a space to infuse your personality and style. And there are plenty of updates you can make that won’t break the bank or take months of renovations.
So today we’re talking about five simple updates you can make to your home in a weekend… and most of them won’t even take that long! The majority of these ideas can be implemented into a rental as well… you would just need to switch it back before moving out (or make a generous donation to the next renter! ;)).

NEVER underestimate the power of paint to transform a space! This is the one tip that may not be workable if you’re a renter, but you can always ask your landlord… you may be surprised by their answer! We painted a room in a house we were renting and our land lord even offered to cover the cost of the paint! Even if your space isn’t needing a total transformation, painting a wall or few can bring new life and freshen things up a bit.

Switching out your hardware—knobs, handles, pulls, curtain rods, hooks, etc—is a simple and affordable update that can completely change the feel of a space. Look around your home and see what hardware could use updating… your door knobs? Your kitchen cabinet pulls? This can be a relatively quick project and really does make all the difference. If it’s just not in your budget to completely switch things out, most hardware can be spray painted! I highly suggest investing the $7 in this accessory if you do choose to spray paint. Your hands will thank you for it! 🙂

Light fixtures help set the mood for a room, so swapping out a pendant, chandelier, or flush mount can be a great way to update your space. All you need is the ability to follow directions and/or minimal electrical knowledge (and don’t forget to switch your fuse to “off!”). If you’re a renter, simply switch the light back when you move out! Good luck!

The shower curtain in your bathroom is most likely one of the bigger visual pieces in the room, and good news?! They’re relatively inexpensive! If you want the most bang for your buck in a bathroom, changing out your shower curtain will do just that. One switch that we made when we moved to our current home was to ditch the plastic liner in favor of a cloth one. I never knew what I was missing out on before! A cloth liner feels so much more luxurious, and can be thrown in the wash when it’s starting to get funky.

Nothing cozies up a space like hanging art on the walls! Whether you create a gallery wall, utilize my favorite photo ledge, or go big with one piece, putting something you love up on your walls is a great weekend project! See my 3 ways to fill walls for more tips and ideas!
I hope you’re feeling inspired to tackle one of these simple updates this weekend! Shoot me a photo of your space at hello@mysahomestyling.com if you do… I’d love to see it!
