Do you feel like your home is lacking joy? A joy-filed home is possible—all it takes is some intentionality, a bit of creativity, and a few resources from me to you! Here are three guidelines for creating a joy-filled home…
Aesthetically, creating a joy-filled home is going to look different from person to person. For some, bright colors and lots of pattern may bring joy, while for others, a neutral palette and limited pattern is more joy-inducing. There are maximalists and minimalists and everything in between, people who love vintage and those who crave modern, some who like matchy-matchy and others who can’t stand it, and the list goes on and on.
Simply put, you do you. There are a million different styles and preferences, and for your home to bring your joy, it needs to reflect yours. Not what’s hot on Instagram, not what’s trending on Pinterest, but what you really love. If you feel like you could use some help discovering what your personal style is, I have a 30-page guidebook all about that, with 5 steps to discovery and lots of bonus material.
For you home to bring you joy, it needs to not only be filled with things you love, but also activities and experiences you love. Perhaps it’s bubble baths, cooking, having friends over for a movie night, hosting a neighborhood BBQ, curling up with a good book, creating art, or some other entirely unique activity… whatever it is, incorporate more of it into your life and home.
You might feel like you’re at a point in your life where you just don’t have the bandwidth for the activities you really love. But if you can find even little things that bring you a spark of joy, I’d encourage you to find time for them… you might be surprised by how much joy it brings to your home!
Lastly, you home should be filled with people you love. We don’t have beautiful homes to hoard them and enjoy them all ourselves—we have the homes we have to share them with others! Practicing hospitality will bring joy to your home, because generosity begets gratitude. As you see those you love enjoying your home, you’ll be more thankful for it, and in turn, it will be a more joy-filled place!
