I’m so excited to share this room reveal of a recent project with you today! This modern farmhouse living room makeover was such a blast to work on, and my clients were a delight to serve.
Christel and her husband, Jason, hired me back in May to help them create a cohesive and cozy home before the birth of their first child in August. They wanted to focus mainly on their living room and were willing to ditch pretty much everything, as they had a hodgepodge of furniture and decor from before they got married. Here are a few photos of their space when I saw it first.
As you can see, their room wasn’t in terrible shape, but it was filled with a lot of dark furniture, basic pieces, a too-small rug, and not a whole lot of personality. So I got to work!
In May I visited their home, took lots of notes, and sourced loads of inspiration and ideas for their space. They picked out a new sofa set and I selected an armchair and rug for them. Then we waited for everything to be delivered. After the large pieces were delivered, I visited again to get a sense of the space, then got to shopping for the smaller furniture, accessories, and decor. Then I went for my final visit to put everything together. Here’s a time-lapse video of my husband, Brian, and I bringing everything in and starting the styling.
And here are all the after photos! It’s now a bright, airy space with a modern farmhouse vibe, complete with lots of storage for their baby who should be here any day now! The two side tables with baskets, a large basket in the corner, and an extra long ottoman that opens up will all provide ample space for hiding away toys and other belongings.
This wedding photo above their sofa will soon be replaced with a larger family photo once they’re a family of three! It will be such a sweet focal point for the room, especially since Jason really wanted photos in the space. They also plan to replace the curtains with blinds, which will allow even more light into the space.
Jason also requested greenery and plants, but neither wanted to have to take care of keeping them alive, so I purchased them a few different faux plants, including this faux fiddle leaf fig. Plants add so much life to a room… I truly feel like no room is complete without a plant!
Trays are great for corralling remotes, candles, magazines, and the like, and this long skinny tray was perfect for the long ottoman. I love adding trays to ottomans to make it feel more like a coffee table and give people a place to set their drink.
Since most everything was new from Home Goods, Target, and online, I scattered vintage books throughout the room, as well as a vintage brass bowl. These few pieces help make the room feel a bit more collected and storied. By the way, I love these lamps from Target… I feel like they’d look great in most any room!
